Key Accomplishments
Overview
Our project is to create a platform to levitate a magnetic material, small enough
to be in place of a cluster of cells. It consists of three different sub-systems in
order to achieve our requirements. The material is going to be placed inside a petri
dish, which will be held by a container of our own design. The magnetic sub-system
uses a series of magnets in order to levitate the material above the bottom of the
petri dish, so that it doesn't experience the surface normal force. The optical sub-system
will be for keeping track of the levitation height of the material, via a 'trip-wire'.
The camera sub-system will be for monitoring the cell, by use of a camera positioned
just above the petri dish, so researchers can keep track of the progress of the cells
