Purpose: In order to keep up with industry standards, SRS Crisifulli is trying to develop a more efficient control system for their dredges. The relay based control panel currently in place has given way to control systems using programmable logic controllers(PLCs).  The dredge's totally automated and remote operations are achieved with low voltage electronic controls. A PLC (programmable logic controller) is programmed to provide control over the dredges automated functions and control loops, minimizing labor and maximizing production of solids at the set flow rate. This system will provide customized operational features to meet the specific operational needs of their customers.   In order to change the functions of the relay based operating system, often all of the hardware had to be reconfigured, costing more time and money. The PLC provides the operator with an easier way to change automated functions by simply reprogramming the PLC.
