Professor Joe Shaw and Paul Nugent currently use thermal imaging cameras for applications such as atmospheric remote sensing, airborne imaging, and wildfire management, and expressed a need to update the existing communication module between the FLIR infrared camera and the RGB monitor.
The purpose of this project is to update an already existing, FPGA-based interface between camera and display with the goal of implementing the capabilities of real-time radiometric calibration of images, real-time image processing, and internal data storage, all the while maintaining a low profile package. The results of this design project would eventually lead to the development of a piece of hardware that will be used in existing research projects, and has the potential to be a framework for future projects and commercial product development.
