Level 1 Requirements
- Stay under $250 Budget
- Robot must have a statistically significant increase in performance over the original design
- Must follow the race rules
- Budget
- Each team can get a robot car kit plus $125 from the ECE department and can spend another $125 of the team’s own money to improve the car.
-
To be fair for all the teams, even if a team chooses to use some available resources (such as a 3-D printer owned by a team member) or parts (such as a motor owned by a member), the cost of using such resources or parts should be fairly estimated and included in the cost for the improvement.
Only the cost of the parts and manufacturing work used in the final product is counted toward the $250 budget. If a team pays for some parts or some development work but finally does not use them in the final product, the cost of the parts or the work will not be included in the cost of the final product. However, if the team pays for such parts or work and spend more than $125, the team will need pay the extra dollar amount using the team’s own money.
- Start and finish of the race
-
There will be a black line perpendicular to the race track and placed on the straight segment of the track. Each team will place the front of their car behind the black line to start the race. The team can use a push button or other means to start the car.
Once the car starts to run, it needs to go through the entire track and always stay on the track during the race. The car finishes the race when the front of the car passes the black line again and has to stop within a 2 feet distance from the black line. If a car does not stop within the distance, the car fails the race. Each team has 3 chances to race and can use the race that is successful and takes the minimum time for the competition.
